The little Nanoblock people series of works, as StealthEagle called, was inspired by many excellent submitted works from other builders in last year’s Nanoblock competition. Due to the small collection of Nanoblocks in my possession, making small things is often the best approach for me to enjoy building Nanoblocks.
What I tried to achieve here was to make small scenes with multiple objects. Due to their small sizes, extra care must be taken to every detail of the models. I found studs to be ‘problematic’ in small-scale models because they look incompatible and unnatural. So I tried to minimize using studded blocks as much as possible.
Four scenes were made in this series. The first one is simply a typical scene of a farmer’s life. In this work the farmer is about to milk a cow with a bucket in his hand. Originally, I made a thin version of the farmer, but I thought he would look more interesting if I made him fatter. Building the cow posed a headache for me as it was difficult to create it in such a small scale. I thought adding flowers in the background could bring life to the whole scene, so I did.
The second scene is about a girl lecturing her dog for pooping. The girl model was taken directly from my previous Mini Cooper work. The main objective of this work here was to make an identifiable dog with minimal number of blocks as possible. Initially, several models of the dog were made, and the one in the picture was the chosen version as it best represented the generic shape of a dog compared to the rest.
The third scene is about a drunken and homeless person with his possessions around him. The only difficulty I encountered here was how to make this person appeared drunk. I thought of borrowing a hat from the Nanoids, and placing it loosely on his head, and then adding some empty bottles next to him would do the job.
The final scene is about a man sleeping on his couch with a ghost standing behind him. Originally, the sleeping man was the only model of the scene, and I thought it looked a bit bland. So, I made a scene of a small park with the sleeping man on a bench, but this wasn’t enough. Then, an idea came to me, and I remade this into a scene from a scary movie. I considered the scary movie scene worked when I put this model against a black background, and took a photo under low lighting condition.
