The Lincoln Memorial is an American national monument built to honour the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, a president most notably remembered for abolishing slavery and strengthening our government and people through a time of war. Construction began in 1914, finishing with it’s official dedication in 1922.
Across a long, reflective pool is the Washington Monument, a tall, once world record holding tower that commemorates and honours the 1st President of the United States, George Washington. Construction began in 1848 however ceased in 1854 due to funding issues, then started up again in 1877 and lasted until 1888, a long drawn 40 years!
Both monuments reside in Washington D.C. Many famous protests and gatherings have started or ended between these monuments, and they are quite famously known for appearing in American based movies such as Independence Day, Mars Attacks, and Forrest Gump just to name a few.
The history and architecture would be the driving factors that made me decide to build this as a elongated sites to see style Nano creation. The Lincoln Memorial always seemed fitting to me as a sites to see model, in fact I have often questions why Kawada chose not to release something similar. It’s something I have wanted to build for quite a while, an important piece of our culture and history, and while this build turned out nice I do have plans to expand it even larger and document a deluxe sized Nano creation.
